At OCtyPuS (Ogbourne Community Pub Society), we cherish the spirit of community. Our pub, the Silks on the Downs, serves as a hub for locals and visitors, offering events, volunteer opportunities, and a welcoming space for all.
The Silks on the Downs public house has brought together our community, including those from neighbouring villages and local towns, for over 100 years.
Over that time, it has developed a very strong reputation, has been a hub for community meetings, has supported local events and provided the first jobs for many of the young people in the community.

The Silks, a Victorian country pub located in the village of Ogbourne St Andrew, Wiltshire. Our pub is part of a growing trend where the local community own the building, but it is operated by an independent tenant, our publican isThomas Frake, MasterChef Champion.

What exactly is OCtyPuS?
OCtyPuS is a Community Benefit Society registered under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014. We were created to bring our local public house, The Silks on the Downs, into community ownership and secure the future of the pub for the benefit of all members of our community.
Since the establishment of the society in 2021 we have been successful in saving our pub and we now focus on supporting its commercial success and benefit to our community.
